In P&IDs, trim is just an additional information added to any equipment or piping like the specification to which this belong to or insulation, tracing requirements applicable on it.

"Associated trim" is a term referred to all associated minor accessories of any vessel like vent valves, drain valves, instrument bridles, etc. In general P&ID also contains information regarding piping material, insulation requirement and other related to the trim. There accessories are basically part of vessel / exchanger mechanical drawings, in detail. Hope you get the point.
