Will you please specify the thickness of the defected part and the type of defect?
A normal way of repairing it with welding utilizes high nickel cast iron welding material with controlled cooling. Tricky to repair with welding.

1. Pre-heat 500-700 deg F
2. Use E-Ni CI AWS5.15 preferably or ERNiCr-3
3. Keep the interpass not less than pre-heat temperature
4. Cool under insulation

I have heard a lot about Belzona polymeric coating and its application on casting repair, corrosion / erosion protection, crack / flaw repair on pumps impellers, wear rings, shafts etc. but haven't any experience of getting it done.
It must be having some limitations also with respect to the size and type of repair to be made. Not sure much about that.
