Have there been any protocols /procedures defined within the site level to have an inspection & maintenance of gaskets.
Not for everything in all services but some critical flammable /toxic services?
I need inputs for new installations and for the ones already in operation.
Inspection & Maintenance of Gaskets
Re: Inspection & Maintenance of Gaskets
By the look of how you have asked, I get a feeling that there must have been either an audit finding or an incident or a near miss triggering this.
Now there are three ways to look at this.
1. As received inspection @ warehouse
2. Pre-installation quality check
3. Post installation checks
Inspection at (1) is only performed to make sure what was ordered has been received as per specifications and nothing beyond. There are controlling procedures available to perform inspection of incoming materials however does not address specifically gaskets or for that matter any other material in particular. Refers to the standards when applying positive material identification or when accepting material to a material test certificate.
Checks at (2) are indeed critical as these are not only the quality checks. The type of gasket which is required to be installed here is the key check and accordingly pick that from the warehouse. This has to be a recorded event for all SC equipment including piping.
(3) is connected to 2 and is normally performed using the same recordable format used for type of gasket selected, its item ID, and warehouse reference.
These checks if in place should get you through with good practices of gasket inspection & maintenance.
