How can we differentiate between carburization and metal dusting?
I know the basics of both but how we can actually compare and draw lines between the two?

In very simple words, the corrosion (metal loss) resulting from carburization process is metal dusting. This only happens when metastable carbides are formed and then disintegrate in the form of dust.

How can one estimate the carbon activity to determine the possibility of metal dusting?
