commissioning and pre commissioning

Post by westdeap12 »

What critical matters and things do i need to bother during pre commissiong and commissioning of a esterification plant. I am a process engineer. so, for mechanical and piping work, i am not sure. I have to liaise with the commissioner to sort out all the problem. Please advise.

You are talking about a vast topic. You may find your interest in API-700 (Checklist for Plant Completion).

In general, as far as Owner Process Engineering review scope is concerned, you will be responsible for following (pre-com);
  • Verification of as-built P&ID
  • Vessel internal inspection before final box-up
  • Control loop verifications (soft loop testing)
  • Reduction of catalyst (if present and required) under OEM presence
  • Verification of flow meters (orientation, location and metering factors etc)
And for commissioning;
  • Pre-Startup-Safety-Review cycle (PSSR)
  • Performance test runs of all equipments (machines, distillation columns, furnace, mixers, exchangers, catalyst, gas turbines etc)
  • Verification of overall plant performance including energy index and production capability
  • Plant smooth operations at all guaranteed production loads, with respect to any design limits breach.
  • Development of new KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in addition to OEM provided KPIs, to monitor plant performance in more precise and accurate way.
For a Commissioning Process Engineer (EPC) then your responsibilities will be entirely different. That mainly includes the compliance of contractual numbers, by any means necessary.
