Unfortunately many of our stainless steel pipes in paper making plants in the US have been welded by simply butting up the pipe and welding it without a purge (Argon, Solar Flux or flux coated TIG wire). These pipe welds do not last and are prone to crevice cracking due to white or black liquor product flowing thru them.

Qaisar,
Have you any experience of using non-purging wires?

No! I haven't any such experience, but I heard about non-purging wires being used at our construction site now a days.

arcpro,
What do you want to know about non-purging filler wires?

I want to know about the type of wires you used, manufacturer information and the result.
Did you qualify your welders for this new non-purging wire?

Few months ago, we used R316LT1 AWS 5.22 for repair works of SS weld joints where purging was not possible.
We procured these wires from METRODE and they worked fine for us.
Welders were not required to be re-qualified if they are qualified on GTAW with purging.
