What are HSLAs and their applications in petrochemical industry?

1. High strength low alloy steels falls in between th category of carbon steels and low alloy steels.
2. They have little alloying about 0.1% by weight
3. Normally killed
4. Used where strength, toughness is required

In addition to what ben has mentioned, HSLAs normally contains elements such as vanadium, niobium and titanium. These elements are added to have a fine and small grain as they modify the structure.
They are used for many piping systems and pressure vessels requiring increased toughness.

Would like to add few more lines:
a. HSLA steels are typical fine grained low alloy steels.

b. In HSLA steels, the C content is lowered to below 0.1% and the desired strength is achieved by refinement of ferrite grain size produced by micro alloying of aluminium, vanadium, niobium and titanium.

c. They are also called micro alloys.
