Just curious to know about the location of expansion loop in any piping system , Let suppose we have three mutually perpendicular pipes(operating conditions are same) between equipments . From mutually perpendicular i mean , pipe run in X axis , Y axis and Z axis . Now due to excessive thermal loads , there is a need of providing expansion loop in piping .

How we will decide on which pipe run we will exactly provide expansion loop , will it be in X-axis run , in y-axis run , Z axis run . What would be the criteria of locating the exact position of the Expansion loop? I hope i have cleared my point.

The configuration you have mentioned itself would be having compensation for expansion as it contains two bends but if your service conditions, piping dimensions demand for an expansion loop to be added, the best location is the pipe in Y-axis. However, providing anchor in the Y-axis would demand for a better anchoring of the piping systems as Y-axis pipe already contains two bends. Placing the expansion loop in X-axis or Z-axis would cause axial movement on the anchors (equipment nozzle) which may exceed the maximum limit.

I would suggest you to perform a complete analysis by providing the expansion loop in all three pipe runs and then take a final decision. Use Caesar II 5.2 for evaluation and simulation.

You may consider adding an expansion loop (L-shaped) before X travel of the piping. It would also add to the available flexibility in the piping.

I guess there is no hard and fast rule or criteria for the location of expansion loop , will we do several iterations for placing expansion loop with good engineering judgement . Is it..?

Yes that's true. It's the correct engineering judgement that how can you make piping flexible. There are some guidelines but one has to perform the actual engineering calculations with computer aided softwares to provide required flexibility. Supports, anchors positioning and type do play an important role along with expansion loop sizing and placement.
