PMI Help

we have X-Met 5100 for PMI
i need one help regarding to identification of low alloy steel

that is it possible to check the
c-Mo (PI) & Cr- Mo(P11 & P22) via it if yes then how(other than by checking composition of Mo and Cr in it)??

Composition of Cr & Mo check is enough and the only main difference.

Sakib,

I would second ashfaq in answering your query. You must notice that there is no significant difference in % carbon of these materials, therefore it would be of no much significance if you would have a better PMI equipment capable of detecting even carbon. The only differentiating elements are Cr & Mo. So you have to trust your PMI results in this reference. You should also compare your PMI results with those mentioned in MTC

Moreover, hardness check can also be looked into if specified by the governing standard.

Piping must have been procured with original MTCs also. Check the chemical composition with PMI and if OK, keep the original MTCs and PMI report in your records and accept the pipes.
