We had a pre-commissioning requirement at plant by our operation & start-up team. They wanted to inspect and witness the pipelines for any foreign material (like electrode, nut, bolt, stone, glove, etc) before taking those into service and also the check the effectiveness of flushing and steam-blowing activities.
This need was very valid and understandable for a plant setup having high speed but very sensitive & very expensive machines and equipments which might get damaged at a sudden due to probable presence of any foreign material.
After evaluating a number of piping inspection tools available in NDT market, we finally purchased a right instrument - The PILIT 200. Its a USA manufactured push rod camera (http://aitproducts.com/pipe-inspection-camera) that has a probe length of 60 meters (200 feet) and a probe camera head of 1 inch diameter. The operation principle is more-or-less same as that of ordinary boroscope / videoscope but with high resolution of camera and high intensity illumination. The application range of internal piping inspection is from 2" to 20" diameters with the ability to travel thru all bend and elbows very easily. In a nutshell, the pilit is efficient and smart solution for the pre-commissioning requirement of operation & start-up team.
Its is for experience sharing with forum members. Comments are welcome.

Re: Piping Internal Inspection System
Dear Forum Member,
I have tried similar system in ExxonMobil 18 yrs ago.The crawel system will stuck after going through certain distance .The pipe size is 20" and I need to cut the pipe to pull the tool.
We need to qualify this system throgh proper mock-up test and we need to establish how many bends and elbows it can pass through and in addition we should whether we can use this system for inspection of piping already in service or only for brand new piping before commissiong.
More over this day rate for this equipment is also very high and if stuck inside your pipe,to cut and remove is another cost.
Thanks
NNREDDY

Dear NNREDDY,
Appreciate your valuable feedback and experience sharing.
We will take care all the precaustions (mock-up, practical applications & limitations) upfront so that we may not face any embarrassment in the field.
Thank You. - Qaisar

Re: Piping Internal Inspection System
we've gone through the same situation in our plant, after the pre-comessioning (water flushing/air blowing & steam blowing) phase successfuly completed, we have done an internal inspection only for the critical lines by using Baroscopic device

Hi MOE,
Nice to hear from you too. It would be of great help for us if you cane please specify the specs of your boroscopic device (make. model, probe dia, probe length) and also the application (piping sizes, no. of bends) you have employed at your end.
