Gentlemen, learning hysys will be no problem once you go through the attachment. 'To start with HYSYS' to 'Simulate separation columns' will be on your finger tips. This document is developed by a PhD Student of Chemical Engineering, and I have found it very informative regarding learning HYSYS. The following topics you would find in the document discussed in detail.
1- Start with HYSYS
2- Equation of State
3- Pump simulation
4- Compressor Simulation
5- Expander Simulation
6- Heat Exchanger Simulation
7- Flash separator Simulation
8- Conversion Reactor Simulation
9- Equilibrium Reactor Simulation
10- CSTR Simulation
11- Absorber Simulation
12- Separation column Simulation
13- examples
Download it, read it and enjoy using hysys

Re: Complete Learning of HYSYS
Wow, thats what I was looking for since long. Great............
Can any body provide me a document that covers the dynamic mode of HYSYS the same way, the above document dose the steady state mode?

Re: Complete Learning of HYSYS
But this paper has no information regarding boilers and furnaces in HYSYS. I am stuck with a simulation of reforming furnace and a water tube boiler. Can any one guide my thru.
Re: Complete Learning of HYSYS
qasim, unit operation "fired heater" is the one you can use for simulating boiler or a furnace. But remember one thing, fired heater is available in dynamic mode only until HYSYS 7.0. In latest releases, this unit operation is working fine in steady state mode also. Post me specifically, if you still have any issues with this unit operation.
Re: Complete Learning of HYSYS
Thanks ibrahim for information regarding fired heater. Hysys has a limitation regarding solid handling. As we require solid fuel based boiler to be simulated. Do share if you have any idea how to do that. It will be a fluidized bed combustion based boiler. Also do tell me if there is any other simulation software for such simulations, that may also help me in simulating bio-gas production facilities.

Specifying a valve in Hysys: in Steady State / Dynamic Mode
Steady State: For a given flow specify Pressure Drop, required opening of the valve, flow characteristic (Linear, Quick opening, Equal %age etc) and then click size valve. This will specify the CV of the valve in steady state.
Before Shifting to dynamic in valve sheet go to dynamic tab and un-check pressure drop and check flow opening relations.
Doing this would be be sufficient to specify valve. I hope this is helpful. for further please explain your specific problem.
