This test is conducted for those exchangers / equipment where other types of leak tests are impractical.
Like you can perform this test for exchangers in the convection section of furnace for detection of any leakage in them as performing any other test even visual is not an easy task. This test just in few minutes finds you the leakage if any.

so is it possible that we will use this test to detect the leaks in heat exchanger if yes then how???

hello ben,
would like to ask:
for smoke bombs, how we want to know; how much of smoke bomb needs to cover the furnace area.
normally, 1 smoke bombs can cover how much m2 of area?

instead of smoke bombs, what others can use to carryout the smoke test?
can use charcoal as a alternative? are the result use others material same as smoke bombs?

The information regarding the area covered by a smoke bomb can be readily given to you by any vendor of smoke bombs. The vendor can provide you with the recommendation that how much smoke bombs you must use to cover a specific area during testing.

Smoke bomb testing is the easiest and relatively clean way of finding leaks in the casing.
Which type of charcoal you want to use?

Before doing smoke bomb testing, process guys need to evaluate whether there is some leakage or not.
They must perform several testing in order to confirm that there is a leakage.
Then the selection of detection method depends where the leakage is suspected.
