Some of the piping support movements have been reported recently at our site in a particular facility. We do not have record of any such movements before and we do not perform specific piping supports inspection in particular.
How to control such findings?
Piping support movements
Re: Piping support movements
Para 5.5.5 of API 570 5th edition-2024 clearly states, "External inspections shall include surveys for the condition of piping hangers and supports. Instances of cracked or broken hangers, “bottoming out” of spring supports, support shoes displaced from support members, or other improper restraint conditions shall be reported and corrected."
It is mandatory to have such an inspection plan in place.
Absence would be a non-conformance to the inspection code.

Re: Piping support movements
This is a necessity that piping external inspection shall be defined within an inspection plan which should be recordable and traceable.
Absence of any external inspection plan for piping would be resulting in gaps in identifying anomalies which come while the piping is in operation.

Re: Piping support movements
We have created piping groups containing piping tags within. Groups are having the same process conditions & materials to identify for their operation. External inspection is performed based upon the groups, recorded & kept. UT measurements and profile radiography for CUI inspections are also done on the group level. Accordingly, the data is maintained.
A separate external inspection program would only enable picking up findings related to the piping supports movements.
