What is the difference between these two grades (SA451 CPF3M & CPF8M) when it comes to their application?
Which are the preferred conditions of application?

The primary difference between SA-451 Grade CPF3M and SA-451 Grade CPF8M lies in their carbon content.
SA-451 governs centrifugally cast austenitic steel pipe (analogous to static casting grades like CF3M/CF8M under SA-351).
CPF3M: Is the low-carbon variant (maximum 0.03% carbon). The "3" indicates a maximum carbon limit of 0.03%, corresponding to wrought 316L.
CPF8M: Is the standard-carbon variant (maximum 0.08% carbon). The "8" indicates a maximum carbon limit of 0.08%, corresponding to wrought 316.
Both grades contain chromium, nickel, and molybdenum (approx. 2–3%), meaning they share similar baseline mechanical strengths and strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-bearing environments. However, the difference in carbon level changes how they behave during manufacturing and application. Similar kind of a pick when 316L is taken up instead of just 316.
