Web based applications

With increasing cloud based data applications, it is bit of an effort to install engineering design software that too every time through IT support & permissions.
However, web based SaaS applications serve a lot better especially when we consider to apply small to medium sized engineering tools.
What do you think engineering software companies should consider having more web based applications rather windows installation packages?

Windows installation packages are pretty much needed as many of the popular engineering applications still get installed locally.
I would say a word of caution when using cloud based applications.
Data security is of major concern and with AI now a days, breaches are even much common.

If you ask me I am more comfortable in applying engineering solutions through web based solutions, access anywhere sort of thing. Like they work anywhere on any device and with cloud saving cases options, it is pretty much all-convenient sort of applications. But not every engineering software would be possible to have a web based access link.
3D modelling, model creation, engineering failure analysis, FEA solutions, piping design layout, flexibility analysis would still not be coming to web based solutions.

I actually think this is one of the biggest opportunities in engineering software over the next decade.

The engineering industry has historically been very conservative. Most software was developed as Windows desktop applications because:
1. Engineering calculations were computationally intensive
2. Companies preferred to keep intellectual property and design data on local servers
3. Internet connectivity was not reliable enough
4. Licensing was easier to control with local installations

Today, almost all of those barriers have become much less significant.
