Following checks are "supposed to be performed" by operations shift in their round:
Visual inspection
Noise inspection
Oil level check
Seal leakage check
Bearing temperature
Vibration observation
Standby equipment readiness
Equipment housekeeping

A lot depends if there are some standing instructions in addition to the routine checks.
Anomaly is given priority.

The most effective operators do not merely record readings; they trend them mentally and identify deviations from the equipment's normal operating signature. In practice, abnormal noise, a slight increase in vibration, or a small rise in bearing temperature are often the earliest indicators of impending rotating equipment failure.

The mandatory routine checks for rotating equipment by operations personnel during their shifts vary by company, but most refineries, petrochemical plants, and gas processing facilities follow similar principles based on OEM recommendations, reliability programs, and site operating procedures. There are specific checks as well based upon the type of rotating equipment and Operators are trained to keep a track of all those indicators.
