API and non-API pumps
API and non-API pumps
What are the major differences in API and non-API pumps when applying to petrochemical industry?
Re: API and non-API pumps
API pump is the one designed, manufactured, and tested according to API standards.
These are the pumps that follow API standards like:
API 610 - centrifugal pumps
API 674 - reciprocating pumps
They are built for HIGH pressure & HIGH temperature, handle flammable / toxic / corrosive fluids, strong materials (alloy steels, etc.), advanced sealing (low leakage risk), with long life + high reliability
Basically with selection of API pumps, we tend to say that failure is not an option.
Non-API pumps, you can say are general purpose ones.

These Non-API pumps can then be used for Water transfer, HVAC systems, light chemical service, right?
But they cannot be considered to be in safety critical services?
