Suggest to have few sittings with any of your colleague working with materials /inspection department to start understanding what exactly would be important to know. And it is quite possible that he himself would suggest you a title if needed or may be some reference pages /articles to come on board.

Would like to recommend a title which I personally had a very good experience with:
Applied Metallurgy and Corrosion Control: A Handbook for the Petrochemical Industry by Amiya Kumar Lahiri
