Digitization of P&IDs

Post by tuan »

Although pdf & native files are available, and updated with the approved changes through documentation team however, we are interested to further digitize them to have an effective control. What options should we need to consider? And how that would affect the update process?

I was planning to add my thoughts here.
The major issue in my opinion is the update, and control process of an existing documentation available with any site.
I am in a favor of having a standalone software to handle plant documentation. Any metadata supporting solution should work. I heard one of our site is already considering to implement the update, and control part for plant documentation. Remaining part would be the tagging, and access which in my opinion is simple to do.
What are the exact challenges you are facing?

Challenges are all very many:
1. Obvious one is the tracking of changes /updates & replacing with the ones got updated
2. Retrieval is another challenge. Do we really need to have a document controller in these modern times?
3. Sharing outside the organization in case of project needs
4. Availability in a centralized link (smart space) to facilitate reviews /studies /risk assessments etc. Not dumping of a lot many pdfs
