Positive Material Identification

When does it stand mandatory to perform PMI for the received materials? In all cases of CRA, PMI is required to be applied? Please share the best practices followed.

When it comes to mandatory, as per API 578 there are "shall" requirements provided and that is where we have our procedure aligned with.
It mandates that owners establish a written verification program for all types of PMI.
It covers the verification of alloy components within the pressure envelope of piping systems to minimize the potential for catastrophic release of hazardous substances.
Considering all this, we have a practice of performing PMI for alloys on lot basis.
None of the material is considered acceptable before PMI is performed as per our in-house guidelines meeting API 578 requirements.
