Transmission system simulation

Post by tosif »

What type of simulation softwares are used to analyze working of transmission system? I need to verify some project related issues. Is there any free-ware also available for this purpose?

Hi Tosif,
As per my knowledge, the best simulation softwares with FEA engines are offered by MSC Softwares. For your specific requirement, I would recommend you to try ADAMS, a product of MSC software. Follow the link below to see how ADAMS help in simulating transmission systems.

Hope this would help.

thanks ashfaq, but this seems to be an expensive software. Is there any freeware available?

Hi tosif,

Actually, there are different freewares (actully student versions) available for transmission system analysis but all of them only evaluated power distrbution, ratios, speed etc from gears. If you want to evaluate the whole transmission including loads on driver and driven shaft, bearing loads of systems having belts or gears, you need professional softwares like ADAMS or by building your own model in Ansys(which require all the boundy conditions to be defined manually). Evaluating gear or belts transmission speed, ratios, power is an easy task but the eavluation of shaft, bearing behavior is critical.

If you let me know you exact requirement I will exactly be able to understand your requirement.

thanks abrar bhai,
what I actually require is to evaluate speed ratio of both driver and driven shafts, power transmitted, torque or stresses on gears and shafts. So can this be done using a freeware.

MSC ADAMS CAR (This will be most helpful)
LMS Virtual Lab
Pro Mechanica to some extent

Sorry, for late reply. Go to www.mitcalc.com. They have software related to all kinds of gears and belts. They give you a free testing period for 30 days in which you can fully use the software.
