That is particularly a very vast subject.
Have you got the basic idea of material selection or this is now you gonna start learning that?
And if you already know about the basics, I would suggest you to cover some of the International Codes /Standards to learn more about this.

See I have not been involved extensively in material selection though know a lot good amount of things about materials used n petroleum industry.
A recent role urged me to have this part study in a formal way when it comes to material selection. And I believe self study could enable me learning the methods. So yes in a way, know the basics but need to formally perform a material selection.

I got you and I understand you must be having access to the codes & standards wherever you are.
Now just plan to study them in detail:
1. NACE 17845: For materials used in corrosive petroleum refining environments
2. NACE SP0407: Format. Content, and Other Guidelines for Developing a Materials Selection Diagram
3. ISO 21457: Petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries - Materials Selection and corrosion control for oil and gas production systems

This considering you know materials.
