Can anybody share the purpose of tertiary seals in a dry gas seal of compressor?

Can any one explains the working principle of dry gas seals, its advantages over conventional seals. What type of medium / gasses are used in drygas seals and their significance.

Dry gas seals work on the principle of centrifugal force. Sealing gas is pressurized with the rotation of very tiny impellers of dry gas seal.

Below are some salient benefits of Dry gas seals

1. They are more effective for sealing than the conventional floating oil seals.
2. No seal oil circuit including pumps, tanks and piping are required in dry gas seals.

Normally inert gas like Nitrogen are used for sealing purposes.

Tertiary seals are installed for stopping the lube oil flow from bearings into the seals due to the positive pressure of inert gas in it.
