Can any body tell me?
What are the best parameters in terms of Proportional, Integral, & Derivative parts, when we are going to tune a controller for the first time using trial & error method.
Please elaborate specifically for
1) Level controllers
2) Pressure controllers
3) Temperature controller

Imran, you even get softwares to predict optimum tuning constants now. I assume that can make life pretty easy in most cases.

Re: Best tuning parameters to start with
Well the loop tuning software require you to provide ample data points of the loop you are trying to tune from your DCS either via a csv file, an excel file or an OPC of some kind. On the basis of the data points, it creates a Transfer Function of your particular loop and recommends Optimized Loop Tuning Parameters.
We are in the process of getting a similar Software for our plant. The ones which we explored were: Inca PID Tuner and Honeywell's LoopScout
The former is purely a tuning software whereas the latter is sort of a mini APC (advanced process control) which can be embedded with Honeywell DCS esp Experion.
I would strongly recommend you to go through the websites of the aforementioned Software.
