Straightening of Pipe

Post by octane »

While lifting and moving certain loads, piping in 3/4" size has been found deformed between its welds.
What is the procedure for straightening the pipe or should we replace it?

I do not know the extent of piping deformation. Only the extent / current shape can tell whether replacement is necessary or a hot work would do the job.
If you decide to hot work it, do not use hammering, just slowly heat the pipe spool and with mechanical load try to straight it out.
You must look into ASME PCC-2 for details.

Before doing any hot work, just see the material of the piping.
Hot work should not be done on low alloy steel piping belong to P.No.5B especially.

The piping material is carbon steel A106 gr. B.

There is no problem in hot adjustment of carbon steel piping below transformation range and for this much small piping.
Do perform penetrant testing of adjacent weld joint after straightening.
