Leakage from bearing No.1 of GE Frame 5 gas turbine

Post by fraz »

we have a GE frame 5 gas turbine which has extensive lube oil level drop in the console. The most probable area of leakage is from bearing # 1. Can anybody guide us how can we reduce the extent of leakage without shutting down the machine as machine is critical to business?

I suggest you you to analyze your lube oil system throughly.
There can be some very basic causes of this leakage.
a. Partial blockage in drain passages of bearing housing
b. Excessive pressure in the console due to oil mist
c. Clogging of openings for venting the oil mist
d. Initial high level of lube oil in console
Narrow down your analysis to the cause of this leakage.
Complete rectification would not be possible while machine is running but yes you can reduce the leakage somehow.
