Hot Cracking Sensitivity of Low Alloy Steels

Post by ben »

Hot cracking sensitivity = {C x (S + P + Si/25 + Si/100) x 10e3} / (3Mn + Cr + Mo + V)

Hope this will help many of you.

What this number predicts about? What is its importance and in which circumference this parameter is calculated?

More higher the number, more would be the susceptibility of hot cracking during welding of low alloy steels.
It helps you in determining that a certain low alloy steel is much susceptible to hot cracking during welding, so adequate measures must be taken which must mitigate this problem.
