Painting job contract in process plants (Equipment/piping)

Post by sharjeel »

Can some one guide me on how to take guarantees from a Contractor hired for painting jobs on process plant at a very large scale.
Also, please let me know the standards that are normally used for such jobs.

One method of specifying guarantees for contractor can be based on "European Scale of Degree of Rusting for Anticorrosive Paints".
A typical example for Equipment items, such as pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, electric motors, transformers, generators, hoists and cranes, carbon steel actuated valve, plate heat exchangers, etc. would be
Applicator, at site, or Manufacturer (shop application) of the complete paint systems and/or the finish coats shall guarantee, for the complete painting systems a Rusting Degree, from work completion (commissioning) at site, according to European Scale of Rusting Degrees "Re 2" after 60 months for painting applied in Manufacturer workshop or 42 months for painting applied on site. If during the above mentioned period, painting defects would be ascertained, the Applicator shall, at his own care and expense, bring back the faulty surfaces to the acceptability degree. Additionally, during this period and for all coating systems, including Manufacturer coating system, no coating failures such as cracking, peeling, delamination, loss of adhesion, etc. shall occur under the intended service conditions.
You have to divide the entire plant into groups of similar kinds and prepare a detailed specification for the contractor.

Thanks whaider, that is really helpful. Can you please share a typical specification in this regard? Also can you please provide RAL colors chart? Thanks in advance for that.

It is not that simple, you have to develop a specification based on your specific requirements and in particular your site standards. If not weeks it will take days in preparing such a document. As I mentioned earlier it is not that simple to answer here. You can for sure contact Services at the following link and thePetrostreet can prepare this specification for you and even manage this whole project for you.

Regarding the RAL color system a document is attached. You can very easily get this information by Googling "RAL". If I am correct in understanding your request.
