TUBE, TUBE SHEET ANALYSIS, TUBE TO TUBE SHEET JOINT

Post by SOHAIL CHAUDHRY »

AOA, I want to learn manual as well as software based PV Elite calculations of above listed items as its quite different from Pressure Vessel. So any body can HE thermal & mechanical design can provide me some standard, literature & contact details as its part of my JD now :(

I am a mechanical guy and can only advise you regarding mechanical aspect of your question.
To start with I would advise you to go through the manual calculations of mechanical design of heat exchanger. This would clarify many of your concepts as to how a mechanical design is done. Without knowing the philosophy of mechanical design you would not be aware of many technical terms and for sure no software like PV Elite would help you through.
I will look for some manual mechanical design sheet so that you can start working through that.

Sohail,
I agree with ben.
Its more important to get yourself familiarize with the design philosophy first and then to do it with the softwares.
What's your design code? It's TEMA or ASME Appendices?

Hello again,
Attached find the file which would guide you through the manual calculations of heat exchanger mechanical design.
I found this sometime ago and its pretty useful.

Dears

The work of mr Galala is to the point
however, as you may well have noticed, the ASME Sec VIII Div 1 has a dedicated dsection for the calculations of the tube to tube sheet connection
TEMA has of course detailed procedures,,,in all, both ASME are cross referenced in mechanical design
process design is addressed in TEMA standards as well as less reputable codes in the field of oil & gas

@BenThanks for you People support.
@Ashfaq Bhai its both TEMA and ASME SEC VIII Part UHX, Design cord according to Client specifications.
I`ll go through these calculations and revert back to you in case of any confusion.

That's good.
Go through the calculations and then ask if you have any question.

referece to attached design calculation provided by Ben, can you provide me some pics of shell & tube HE, tube to tube sheet joint selection & tube sheet to shell joint as i am having problem in practical visualization.

I would suggest that you must have a TEMA standard copy available with you while going through the attached calculations.
Or you may google the images you want to see. Surely, you would be getting many.
