fraz, TMR (triple modular redundancy) is a complex in which three systems perform a process and that result is processed by a voting system to produce a single output. If any one of the three systems fails, the other two systems can correct and mask the fault. In simple TMR consists of three separate control loops (including transmitters, control processor and others) except for final control element. It will only reduce the chances of wrong security actuation due to malfunctioning of any of the transmitters or associates. And on the other hand it will also protect the machine by safely trip it if its sensor become unresponsive. Here is an article on TMR for you further understanding of architecture and other stuff.

Dear Fraz,
Pl go to the topic titled "SIL" on "HSE Engineers" forum of thepetrostreet. It'd hopefully help you thru.
