API 1104 CODE ISSUE

Post by inconel »

Dear All,

We have WPS qualified for API 5L Gr X 65 to API -5L Gr X42,X52 and dual X60/X65 welding done with SMAW process, electrode used for root is E 7010P1 and rest with E 8018C3.My query is can we do welding with same WPS for API 5L Gr X 60 to API 5L Gr X 60 OR should we qualify new WPS for X60 ? Construction code is ASME B31.8 and welding code is API 1104.

Regards,

I would say that you must qualify a new WPS for X60 as the material group of X60 and X65 are different as per API 1104 para 5.4.2.2. This is good for auditing purpose.
And I also recommend not to purchase dual marked certified X60/X65 as it violates grouping of API 1104.

Have a look at the attached file which is regarding API 5L marking. Just want to share regarding dual marking of X60/X65.
