Use of CS instead of KCS
Consider the following situation:
Working Fluid: Ammonia
Operating Temperature= 33 degrees Celcius
Recommended material= Killed Carbon Steel (can withstand up to -45 degrees Celcius)
At some points Carbon Steel has been used (cannot go below -10 degrees Celcius).
It is realistic to expect that ...

GRP Pipe Hydrotest Failure
Sharing an incident with you.
It is brief but carries an important reminder:
"GRP pipes are very strong while in operation (pressurized with water) but very fragile when empty and need special
care during construction phase."
During hydrotest of the 8” fire fighting line, a leak occurred.

Re: Inspection of Heater Tubes
As far as my limited experience goes, I have not seen heater tubes getting replaced based upon their hardness values and if that is the case some NACE standard has to be referred to which should be mentioned by OEM of heater.
However, high hardness values of P9 material in your case make up for a ...

Re: Masking tape for finishing SS matls?
The Client wants the outside of the vessel, vertical weld seams to cosmetically look good. Their definition of good is to have the weld seams polished with a straight line on either side of the seam.
In that case, your weld area will have two clear zones - the HAZ which can be addressed by ...

Re: Masking tape for finishing SS matls?
First of all, thanks to all here for the invaluable information in the past!
We are finishing a SS vessel to a #4 surface finish and would like to limit the finished surface on each side of the welded seam to approx 2" or less.
My Q is is there a type of tape that will mask of areas that a buffer ...

Re: Using codes and standards...
Yes Ben,
I have, at some point, myself used these CASTI guides but I just couldn't recall them. They are pretty close to what I have been looking for.
Thank you very, very much!
Kamran

qaiserabbas,
Not really referring to the kind of document you have thought of. Basically, I am interested in having a simple guide developed for young engineers to help them with using codes and standards.

Using codes and standards...
I was wondering if a practical guide towards using codes and standards is available - for example, if someone wishes to carry out welding between two particular metals and needs to find the electrodes for them, can some text point him to open a particular standard and look for a particular heading ...
