Re: Inspection of storage tanks

Better to take a start directly with API 620 & 650.
They would provide you with practical applied knowledge.
Beneficial for you and if there is anything not rightly understood, you can consult your seniors.

Re: Failure of piping sockolet /weldolet

Even in the complete absence of vibration, a heavily loaded or poorly supported branch connection can accumulate high bending stresses and fail at the sockolet/weldolet weld region. Thermal fatigue and fabrication defects are the next most frequent contributors.

Re: PSV Failing in Service @ Lower than Set Pressure

If a PSV repeatedly passes bench testing yet opens below set pressure in service, the problem is often not the PSV calibration itself but something in the installed operating environment.
For a third recurring occurrence, I would investigate the following systematically:
1. Built-Up Back Pressure
A ...

Re: Prediction of high temperature failures

Modern software can continuously calculate creep consumption.
Inputs include tube metal temperature, operating pressure, material grade, time at temperature and you get the outputs including remaining life, creep damage fraction, and risk ranking
So instead of saying that
"Inspect every 5 years"
the ...

Re: Reliability Performance Indicators - Pressure Safety Valves

I would suggest that for some of the PSVs having repeated failures, manufacturer should be involved.
We had a case where an installed internal for PSV was identified as having got aged after 30 years of service.
Upon asking from the manufacturer that where that has been mentioned, he replied that we ...

Re: Triangular & square layouts in heat exchangers

With triangular tube layout, it is difficult to mechanically clean the shell side because there are no straight lanes between tubes. We have higher shell-side pressure drop due to increased turbulence and less suitable for very dirty shell-side services that require frequent cleaning.
They are good ...

Re: ClampOX - Temporary Repairs Engineering Software

Release date is what I am looking forward.
Program is limited to these engineering designs or would there be some expansions as well?

Re: Under Deposit Corrosion Propagation

The biggest contributors here are low flow /stagnation conditions.
When flow velocity drops solids settle, water pockets accumulate, sludge forms, heat transfer surfaces foul, corrosion inhibitors stop reaching surfaces effectively.
Typical scenarios include dead legs, standby exchangers, low-rate ...
